Here are Firefighter Cover Letter Examples:

Dear Chief Worthy:

My name is Joseph Camp and I have been preparing all my life to fight fires for the New York City Fire Department. I am the son of firefighter John Camp and the brother of Michael Camp. I grew up learning fire safety, because that was always a major concern in my family. My dad still conducts fire safety programs in the elementary schools to help teach children a healthy fear of fire, how to prevent one from starting and what to do when faced with an active fire.

I have earned my Associate’s Degree in Fire Science from XYZ Technical School and also took some additional computer science courses because the use of computer programs is becoming increasingly important and useful in firefighting. I have also earned my certifications from the State of New York as well as from the International Fire Service Accreditation Congress (IFSAC), and I am certified in cardio pulmonary resuscitation (CPR) and first aid by the American Red Cross. I am ready to start training at any FDNY where there is an opening.

Although I believe I have received an excellent education that has prepared me to begin training for a job as an FDNY firefighter, my education was greatly enhanced growing up in a firefighting family. You may not have known my grandfather, Edward Camp, but he was a firefighter too and he retired in 1991. My father has taken me on tours of his station on numerous occasions, shown me all of the equipment on a typical fire truck and talked to me about the importance of team work when fighting a fire and rescuing people.

I hope you will consider me for a firefighter position with FDNY. I have enclosed a resume, a letter of reference from Chief Tony Raines at the Crown Heights Station who has known me since birth as well as another reference letter from Dr. Maria Trent, one of my Fire Science instructors at XYZ Technical School. I am available for a personal interview any time at your convenience and you can reach me on my cell phone at (555)-555-5555 or via email at [email]

Respectfully,

Joseph Camp

Dear Fire Chief Mosley:

My name is Mark Drake and I have been a firefighter for the last 4 years at XYZ City Fire Department. Now that I am married and have a young child I would like to relocate to a county department closer to the home I recently purchased in Creek County. I would welcome the opportunity to transfer to any station in Creek County.I have my Associates degree in Fire Science from XYZ Technical School along with my certification in cardio pulmonary resuscitation from the American Red Cross. Within the last year while at XYZ City Fire Department I have served as the driver as well as a member of the Rescue Team.

In addition to my Associates Degree, I have my certification from the National Fire Protection Association. I have taken continuing education courses each year to stay up-to-date on any new equipment or firefighting methods. I am dedicated to my work fighting fires and saving lives. It is an honor and privilege to serve in this capacity. Another one of my duties is to represent the fire department in elementary schools. I teach students and teachers fire safety practices at home and in school. I also assist with the tours we give to students at the fire station. The more we can educate children and their parents about fire safety, the more fires can be prevented in the future.

I am happy to speak with you in person or by phone to answer any questions or conduct a personal interview. I can be reached any time at your convenience on my cell phone at (555)-555-5555 or by email at [email] Thank you for your consideration and I look forward to hearing from you when you have an opening.

Example 3 – Response to Job Postings and Classifieds Ads

This firefighter cover letter example is from an individual who works at a county station but would like to transition to a larger city fire station. He has 3 years of experience at his current job, has completed his Fire Science degree, passed his local exams and earned his certification.

Dear Chief Bennett:

My name is Bradley Stevens and I currently work as a firefighter for the River County Station number 4. I have always aspired to work at one of the ABC City stations and I am responding to an ad on your website for any of the firefighter positions that are now available. I am happy to work at any city station.

I have my degree in Fire Science which I earned from River County Technical School in 2009. I also have my firefighter certification from the National Fire Protection Association as well as my certification in cardio pulmonary resuscitation from the American Red Cross. I have been working at the River County Station since becoming certified 3 years ago.

Last year I received the River County Firefighters Courage and Valor award. Our county suffered an explosion at a chemical plant. There were some fatalities among workers in the plant at the time of the explosion. I entered the structure and led 14 people who were able to walk out of harm’s way. I also carried on victim who was unconscious. I then renters the burning structure to free a fellow firefighter who’s leg was trapped under debris that had fallen and I carried him to safety. I cannot say enough great things about the excellent training I have received that enabled me to know exactly what to do and how to remain calm and think rationally.

My ABC City application, my rйsumй and a letter of reference from Chief Brian Dennis at the River County Fire Station number 4 are all enclosed. I have passed all background checks and drug testing required in River County but am prepared to take part in any kind of testing and training required to be considered for a firefighter position with ABC City. I can be contacted via my cell phone at (555)-555-5555 or by email at [email] Thank you for your consideration.
