I took care of my father who was unable to get around on his own for six years. During this time I took care of all his needs, which included helping him in and out of bed, getting dressed and taking care of all his personal hygiene needs. I also made sure he had his medicine and that he was taking it on time. I monitored his vitals and gave him insulin shots.

I also performed all household duties such as washing clothes, washing dishes, grocery shopping, cooking meals and cleaning to maintain a safe environment. I transported him to and from doctor appointments and to socialize with others his own age for companionship to help him maintain a sense of dignity during this difficult time.

After caring for my father I knew this was the type of work I wanted to do as a career, so I volunteered at a nursing home for two years while earning my associate degree in nursing. During this time, I provided these patients with the same type of care as my father. In addition, I leaned the proper procedures for handling infectious diseases and I gained knowledge of communicable disease control.

I plan to continue my education in the nursing field but in the meantime, I would like to continue helping those who are sick and unable to care for themselves by being a part of your staff. I am CPR certified and I am physically able to handle the patients that need help moving around.
