In addition to my medical degree, I am CDE certified and I have worked with diabetics for the last three years. I know and understand the American Diabetes Association guidelines and I have a complete understanding of the tests used to determine if someone is diabetic, the equipment used to monitor patients and the drugs used for treating this condition.

I have the training to monitor and evaluate the treatments and medicines patients are taking to determine how well they are working. I have the communication skills to relay this information to the patient’s physician and to make recommendations for changes that may benefit the patient more if the person is not responding as well as they should be.

I have excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to answer questions about the disease and the treatments available to patients and their families. I can help them understand how diabetes affects the body so they can comprehend the importance of following their diets and taking their medication as prescribed.

I have lots of patience and understand how difficult it can be for some patients to accept that they must make major changes and I can sympathize with them while remaining professional. I chose this career because I understand that diabetes is a serious disease that more people should be aware of so they can make lifestyle changes to reduce their risks. For this reason, I can also give lectures and speak to groups in an attempt to educate the public on the facts surrounding diabetes, factors that contribute to the disease and ways to prevent it.
