Dear Ms. Marie Orrell,

I am applying for the position of ASL Teacher with Rochester Public Schools and I meet the qualifications required by your school.

I have a bachelor’s degree in deaf education, I have a state license and I am ASLTA certified. I gained experience by working as a student teacher while earning my degree. During this time, I learned how to create lesson plans according to the school’s curriculum and that met the state and federal requirements. I also gained experience monitoring attendance and grading students on their accomplishments.

I have extensive knowledge of ASL vocabulary with the ability to hold a descriptive conversation with other professionals within the school, along with the students and their parents. I have a complete understanding of the deaf culture that includes literature, art, beliefs, politics and history. I can also explain social traditions associated with the deaf culture to the students and use this knowledge to help create curriculums that meet the standards of the school and state.

I have a real desire to help teach students how to communicate efficiently with others. I have the skills to help students feel confident and good about themselves, so they can follow both their personal and career goals. I also have the ability to offer advice to students that need help with their career choice.

I have included a detailed outline of my educational background, experience and skills relevant to this position in my resume. I am certain that I am the best candidate for this position and I hope to hear from you soon.
